warhammer 40k
progress:
what really planted the seed in my head. highly recommend to watch.
pretty dope guide on each faction's stats for competitive warhammer 40k with zero bias. sadly, i found out that factions come and go or even merge into other factions so selecting one to start will be hard
seems to be missing some factions but again, this shit comes and goes 247
lexicanum - warhammer encylopedia
might check this out for the lore and other things. feels like i stumbled into a hidden library
slowly understanding but a codex is the rulebook containing everything related to a particular group -- factions, environment, and even campaign scenarios.
so i don't know much yet but e.g. is the harlequin faction. while harelequinnes are independent of the overall aeldari/eldar group, they still fall underneath the aeldari - codex due to the lore and how it translates to the tabletop game. complicated but fascinating how this shit works
warhammer: age of sigmar
the newer and more fantasy-esque iteration of warhammer tabletop. honestly reminds me of lord of the ring but feels like warcraft 3 in physical form. looks and is perhaps less dense than 40k lore and rule-wise. however, this probably means whatever issues 40k has is addressed in age of sigmar. age of sigmar may take time to have the sheer diversity of figurines offered in 40k but this may be a good option to look at.
a few notes here:
and this yt channel (poorhammer) have spectacular information over age of sigmar (40k as well) with both the table-top game and the lore:
ranking the age of sigmar spearhead boxes 4th edition:
value based on units's gameplay and design
funsies on the models' design based on lore and art-direction. also, includes a cool overview of the stormcast and why that faction is the mascot of the overall franchise. peak meta-commentary
also another note. 40k is known to require huge army points (= figurines) which may be an issue budget-wise. age of sigmar requires much less so perhaps a better option financially. and i've checked out the figurines in this warhammer version. oh boi are they so much more varied and proporitional than the 40k counterparts. perhaps because it's a newer part of warhammer so the artists have more creative freedom? nevertheless, initial impression though so we'll see
cool figurines (may buy):
gundam
now this is crazy. a warhammer 40k version with gundam? obviously nowhere near as complex but i'm suprised that this hadn't been made before. we're looking at renactments of the countless of iconic war battles shown throughout the numerous timelines in the franchise. very excited to see where this go because gunpla can go beyond looking cool and actually becoming something bigger.
trench crusade (wip)
i'm making this a bit more organized because it's an upcoming tabletop rpg that is slowly but surely becoming the spiritual contender to warhammer. organisation for coherency and reference.

crazy how something of a dlc for 3ds and wii-u became a figurine phenomenon for nintendo fans. thing is they've became quite of an arsenal that includes not only first-party ips, but also collabs with such like shovel knight or kingdom hearts. i've yet to buy one but will for a write-up
anything else?
weirdly, i can't stop thinking of pokemon and miffy bunny? they're so basic yet such an iconic aesthetic. thinking whether i should look more into them as well.
